By all means break the rules, and break them beautifully, deliberately and well.

It is buddies with the Polish city of Ełk, it regularly tops lists of the prettiest American towns, it is the mecca of hippies (this is where Phish is from), beer lovers (Vermont has the most breweries per capita of all US states), turophiles (150 varieties of cheese are produced locally), and fans of Ben & Jerry's ice cream (this is where the boys opened their first shop in a renovated gas station, right after they graduated from a correspondence course in ice cream making). Burlington.

Burlington.

It this a musical with audience participation?

Czy to musical z aktywnym uczestnictwem widzów?

The Rambler used to be a railway terminal, now it has a new residential/business life. It's owners don't give a damn about architectural convenances.

The roof is topped with solar panels and wind turbines. Old chains and boiler pipes have been used in constructing the roof deck. The building is heated with a vegetable oil boiler and insulated with carpet scraps. The owners use a wood-burning stove and a composting toilet, and a rainwater harvesting system is in the works.

Właściciele używają kuchni opalanej drewnem i kompostującej toalety, pracują też nad systemem zbierania deszczówki.

A protective spell over the lake and its residents, and all those who seek a peaceful existence with our underwater ally.

Just as Scotland has its Loch Ness Monster, the States have their Champ from Lake Champlain. Legends? Delusions? Marketing efforts? Maybe. Or maybe not. Both Nessie and Champ are described as having a disproportionally small head on a massive, long neck, large body, and flipper limbs. That sounds like a plesiosaur, no? The world has been shocked before to learn that the okapi and the Komodo dragon were actual animals and not creations of mythologies/fables by pathological liars/visions of lunatics. So who knows, maybe one day we will learn that the lake boys had missed the memo to die millions of years ago and have been doing just fine all this time.

We were at Lake Champlain two weekends ago, while taking a first-time trip to Vermont. We did not get a glimpse of Champ but our blood turned into black pudding anyways when we spotted human tracks covering the surface of the lake all the way to the horizon. In late March. I do hope that after the thaw it will be Champ peaking out of the water and not somebody's swollen blue arm or leg.
Szkocja ma swojego Potwora z Loch Ness, a Stany mają Champa z Champlain. Legendy? Urojenia? Zabiegi marketingowe? Być może, a być może wcale nie. I Nessie, i Champ opisywane są podobnie - nieproporcjonalnie mała głowa na masywnej, długiej szyi, spore cielsko, płetwonogi. No wypisz wymaluj plezjozaur.

More on Vermont to come.
Wkrótce więcej o Vermont.
