Day 40. Her anklets cling, his stomach cries.

The weather disrupts our plans. I would have never guessed it was possible, but the morning welcomes us with a simultaneous downpour and a sandstorm. We will not then venture out to a Karo village, a 3 hour drive away, since the road is a difficult one even in good conditions. After the rain it would be entirely impossible.

We're visiting the last tribe of this trip, the Arbore. In the microcosmos of southern Ethiopia, the Arbore are quite worldly people. Besides raising cattle and growing crops, they have always traded goods between the Omo Valley and the highlands inhabited by Konso. Supposedly, back in the day, the Arbore were monopolists in the ivory trade. The Arbore often marry women from other, sometimes far away, tribes.

We're taken around the village by one of the Arbore who's very engaging, he assists in photo taking, shoos away nagging kids. Our visit is trouble-free but Peter and Sabina go through a rough ordeal with a woman who demands a lot of money for a picture they took. They photographed... a goat.

Kobiety golą głowy do momentu zamążpójścia.

We stop for lunch at a tiny local restaurant. Pasta on injera is a common sight, the Ethiopian and Italian cuisines sometimes bear ugly offspring, but this time we're surprised. Pasta twice and rice on top of that?

By now Peter and Sabina are so fed up with injera, they'd rather not eat at all.

Exhausted, in the evening we reach Arba Minch. We install ourselves in the pink eyesore and go get dinner. We're used to bizarre wording and misspellings in English menus, yet we still feel sad to find 'friend fish' on one.

A few days earlier, we were talking about our pets. We showed pictures of our cats, Peter and Sabina talked about the enormous tank they have in their Vienna apartment. They were describing various species of fish they kept in it and Yared's eyes were getting rounder and rounder. Finally, he couldn't contain himself any longer: 'For eating?!'

Wieczorem wykończeni docieramy do Arba Minch.

My pokazujemy zdjęcia naszych kotów, Peter i Sabina opowiadają o ogromnym akwarium jakie mają w swoim wiedeńskim mieszkaniu. Opisują różne gatunki ryb jakie w nim trzymają, a oczy Yareda robią się coraz bardziej okrągłe. W końcu nie wytrzymuje: 'For eating?!'
