Day 42 / Dzien 42.

We left Talkeetna. It wasn’t an easy decision. It really felt like home. Right before leaving we got two serious offers to stay for the winter.
The first one: to winterize somebody’s cabin in exchange for living in it for free. The con of this one was that the cabin is some 4 miles away from town and we wouldn’t have any means of transportation. Our diesel wouldn’t even start when it got really cold.
The second one: to work at a ranch in exchange for room and board. This one was interesting. Lee would be helping with building log cabins and I would be cooking and preparing the garden for the winter. We would learn a lot. We’d also have our own cabin with a wood-burning stove and the owners are vegetarian so I wouldn’t have to cook meat! BUT they are ex-missionaries and very religious and that’s definitely not our cup of tea. And they have ‘no booze’ policy. No booze? We couldn’t have a drink in the privacy of our cabin after busting our butts all day? I don’t think we could handle that.

Opuscilismy Talkeetna. Nie byla to latwa decyzja. Naprawde czulismy sie jak w domu. Tuz przed wyjazdem dostalismy dwie powazne oferty przezimowania.
Pierwsza: zabezpieczyc na zime czyjas chate w zamian za mieszkanie w niej za darmo. Minusem bylo to, ze chata jest ponad 6 km od miastaczka, a my nie mielibysmy zadnego srodka transportu. Nasz diesel nawet nie ruszylby z miejsca kiedy zrobi sie zimno.
Druga: pracowac na rancho w zamian za wikt i opierunek. Ta oferta byla interesujaca. Lee pomagalby w budowie chat z bali, a ja gotowalabym i przygotowywalabym ogrod na nadejscie zimy. Oboje nauczylibysmy sie wiele. Poza tym mielibysmy na wylacznosc chate z piecem na drewno, a w dodatku oni sa wegeterianami wiec nie musialabym gotowac miesa! ALE oni sa bylymi misjonarzami i sa bardzo religijni a to zdecydowanie nie to, co misie lubia najbardziej. I maja zasade ‘zero alkoholu’. Zero alkoholu? Nie moglibysmy wypic drinka w zaciszu wlasnej chaty, po calym dniu ciezkiej pracy? Nie sadze, ze moglibysmy z tym zyc.
