"A w głowach mają oczy, w głowach mają uszy, w głowach mają miasto."

For four days spent in Baltimore, I bitched and whined about my Canon forgotten at home (like Kevin).

Good luck taking pictures of wiggly babies, bouncy 3 year olds, and dogs with ADHD with an analog! Indoors! Opium for them, valium for me! Make it a double!

So at the next getaway (Vermont will soon debut on the blog), I did not even take the Canon out of the bag. Makes sense, right?

I to we wnętrzach!

Logiczne.

The beautiful Penn Station building. Its top three floors will in the future become a hotel. In the past, I had slept in a B&B in an old train car or in lodgings in a treetop. A hotel at a train station? Why not!

All Michelle's pets have British names. Here's Charlie. Wszystkie zwierzęta Michelle mają brytyjskie imiona. Tutaj Charlie.

And here's Dudley. Gus waited our visit out under a blanket. A tutaj Dudley. Gus przeczekał naszą wizytą pod kołdrą.

Michelle's neighborhood, Roland Park, was the first planned suburb in Northern America. Roland Park, gdzie mieszka Michelle, było pierwszym zaplanowanym przedmieściem w Północnej Ameryce.

This 19th century church has been converted into a house. Your own bell in your own tower? A dream! Ten XIX-wieczny kościół przerobiony został na dom. Własny dzwon na własnej wieży? Marzenie!

And a view of retired ones. Plus an ill-fated old power plant adapted into shop/restaurant/office space, where almost every business is doomed to go, well, out of business. I na łodzie emerytowane. Plus pechowa stara elektrownia przerobiona na sklepy, restauracje i biura, w której bankrutują wszystkie biznesy.

I can't think of who I'd want to be stuck in an elevator with, except maybe Amelia Earhart.

Are you too tortured by the awful feeling that you have forgotten something when you're leaving the house for a longer while? I always am and, usually, for a good reason. I notoriously leave behind my comb and my toothbrush. But this time I hit a new low: upon arrival at the airport, I discovered that I brought the filters, the camera charger, the cord, but... not the camera. On the flip side, I did accidentally drag the analog camera along with me, so some film pictures will appear here at some point.

Here are some photos from our short visit to Baltimore, as captured by my phone.

A zatem telefonowa fotorelacja z naszej krótkiej wizyty w Baltimore.

Don't let the appearances fool you! This frigid looking land turned out to be way warmer than what Boston has gotten us used to in recent months.
Pozory mylą! Ta mroźnie wyglądająca kraina okazała się znacznie cieplejsza niż to, do czego przyzwyczaił nas w ostatnich miesiącach Boston.

After a night spent at our friends' place, in the fine company of their new pup, my asthma attack caused us to dramatically evacuate to a hotel (we also discovered that Lee had forgotten to pack the cosmetic/medicine bag, the curse of the forgotten toothbrush is still going strong!).

A view of the... Katyn Memorial. I'm wondering if this is why Lee's watching Wajda's 'Katyń' right now.

North Avenue's coming back to life. Recently, a radical co-op coffee shop/bookstore/vege eatery, Red Emma's, has moved there.

On the way to dinner with Chris, taking an unplanned route, we spotted a sign: 'Tijuana Tacos'. Screams, shrieks, and turning around on screeching tires. Back in the day, we had Tijuana for a neighbor. I learned my first Spanish words to order food when the English speaking owner was not in. We still reminisce about a spontaneous block party that broke out after concerned neighbors gathered to discuss an armed robbery of Tijuana. Later, it closed its doors and we were left with a hole in our hearts and stomachs. Hallelujah, Tijuana is alive!

Potem została zamknięta, a nam pozostała dziura w sercu i żołądku. A okazuje się, że Tijuana żyje!

Crossing into established events is strictly forbidden. Except for cheap tricks.

Mr. Adam came to pay us a visit in Massachusetts. As always, the main activities consisted of spirits, brews, and wine tastings and fired-up discussions on the most random of topics out there.
Pan Adam przybył do Massachusetts z wizytą.

Clockwise. Arepa - a Venezuelan staple. A tiny grilled sandwich consists of meat, cheese, beans, or vegetables stuffed into a corn flour pocket. A side of guesacaca - a very tangy avocado sauce, often dubbed as the 'Venezuelan guacamole'. Fried yuca sticks. Tostones - double fried plantains, which always make me think of my friend Yes, who makes them the best in the world.
Zgodnie z ruchem wskazówek zegara. Arepa - wenezuelski klasyk.
