Do you know Foster Huntington's 'The Burning House: What Would You Take?'? This morning I again had a chance to test what I would grab if I had to evacuate my apartment. Woken up by the carbon monoxide alarm, awaiting the fire department, into a bag I threw my camera, laptop, passport, wallet, the photo archive, and the cat.
Fortunately, no dramatic evacuation was necessary and on this occasion:
1). we found out how long it takes the fire department to get to our place (2 minutes),
2). we determined that few things are more surreal than seeing fully geared firemen stomp around your living room,
3). while installing our new alarm, the saint handy man fixed the central heat as well. Confetti! Party horns! Balloons!
Znacie książkę Fostera Huntingtona Ja dziś nad ranem ponownie miałam okazję sprawdzić co w razie ewakuacji zabrałabym z domu. Wyrwana wyjącem alarmem ze snu, w oczekiwaniu na przyjazd straży pożarnej, do torby wrzuciłam aparat, laptopa, paszport, portfel, archiwum zdjęć i kota.
We eagerly awaited the start of the heating season. Our place had been so so cold. We drank a million hot teas, argued over the blanket, and the cat was seen only i the 'ham' version - with no limbs.
Lately I've been into really simple vegan food. I've been roasting tons of pumpkin and squash, and turning them into purees and soups. We've been eating lots of groats, savory pancakes, lentils, corn on the cob, fried onion in everything, and fresh chilis.
A few days after a trip to the farmers' market, I found in the fridge a caterpillar on an all-inclusive vacation inside a corn cob.
The caterpillar and its parting gift were moved onto a nearby lawn. If you think we're insane, I'll just add that we're also feeding a rat who's healing after a car accident, so that he can have a shot at surviving the impending winter.
The exam session is in full swing. Here, Lee just turned in the first essay. I joke that he looks like tired dr. Religa in this National Geographic picture.
We share the apartment with piles of school books.
The all-time best score - docs for $6. And they are made in England, not China! Now I'm on the hunt for a winter jacket. Second-hand gods and eBay goddesses, please be good to me!
