I wanna say that...
Not everybody loved Harar like we did. The famous 19th century British explorer, geographer, cartographer, writer, linguist, diplomat, ethnographer, poet, fencer, spy and measurer of human penises in various parts of the world, all in all a man of many interests, Richard Francis Burton, visited the 'forbidden city' as the first European. He was the emir's guest for 10 days but felt more like his prisoner.
In his account, he described ugly natives disfigured by diseases, public executions, piles of trash and hoards of mangy, one-eyed dogs. Finally, he found his pretext for leaving in a small-pox epidemic and hurriedly bid his farewell. It is not clear if he even found time to measure the local members...

W swojej relacji opisywał brzydkich, oszpeconych chorobami mieszkańców, publiczne egzekucje, stosy śmieci i stada liniejących, jednookich psów. W końcu, pod pretekstem uniknięcia epidemii czarnej ospy, uciekł czym prędzej z Hararu. Nie wiadomo nawet, czy zdążył pomierzyć miejscowe członki...

General Sir Charles James Napier requested that Burton go undercover to investigate a male brothel reputed to be frequented by British soldiers. It has been suggested that Burton's detailed report on the workings of the brothel may have led some to believe he had been a customer."
