Day 2 / Dzien 2.

It rained all night. Too bad the day before we discovered that our front windshield was leaking (sic!), if it wasn’t for that, we would have slept better.
The first part of today’s drive was the continuation of the road that yesterday brought us into Smokies. 16 miles of turns, ravines, gravel, and huge stones. Surprisingly we drove it without breaking anything. Right on the border of South Carolina and Tennessee the gravel road ended and a paved road picked up.
We stopped past Knoxville for lunch and a nap by a river (Lee had to sleep off the stressful turns). Since Lee’s traveling with a fishing pole, his eyes lit up then he saw the river. “Due to contamination with cancer inducing substances, sauger and catfish can not be consumed by children and pregnant women and the others should limit the consumption to one meal a month” – we read on signs along the banks. Hmm… no thank you. We’ll stick to canned sardines.
We’re spending this night in Standing Stone State Park on the border of Tennessee and Kentucky. A luxury – we have power hook-ups, so I’m typing this up in the middle of the woods while listening to jazz and drinking wine. Tomorrow we’ll try to find internet access, we’ll probably boil water for our morning coffee while parked in front of Starbucks.

Padalo cala noc. Szkoda, ze dzien wczesniej odkrylismy, ze przecieka przednia szyba (sic!), gdyby nie to, pewniej spalibysmy lepiej.
Pierwszy odcinek dzisiejszej jazdy byl kontynuacja drogi, ktora zaprowadzila nas wczoraj w Dymne. 26 kilometrow zakretow, przepasci, zwiru i wielkich kamieni. O dziwo przejechalismy bez stluczenia czegokolwiek. Dokladnie na granicy Poludniowej Karoliny i Tennessee skonczyla sie zwirowka i zaczela droga asfaltowa.
Zatrzymalismy sie za Knoxville na lunch i drzemke nad rzeka (Lee musial odreagowac zakrety). Lee zaswiecily sie oczy kiedy zobaczyl rzeke, bo podrozuje z wedka. “W zwiazku z zanieczyszczeniem substancjami wywolujacymi nowotwory, sauger i sum nie moga byc spozywane przez dzieci i kobiety ciezarne, a pozostale osoby powinny ograniczyc ich spozycie do jednego razu w miesiacu”- przeczytalismy na znakach wzdluz brzegu. Hmm… nie, dziekujemy. Mamy puszke sardynek.
Noc spedzamy w Parku Stanowym Standing Stone na granicy Tennessee i Kentucky. Luksusy – mozna sie podlaczyc do pradu, wiec wstukuje to w komputer w srodku lasu, sluchajac jazzu i popijajac wino. Jutro sprobujemy znalezc internet, pewnie wode na poranna kawe zagotujemy na parkingu przed Starbucksem.

Zegnaj zwirze, witaj asfalcie!
Goodbye gravel, hello asphalt!
